What counts as consumer health data in BeSeen
These laws cover information about your physical or mental health. In BeSeen, that may include:
- Moods: your mood, the mood words you pick, and the color they make
- Body map: where you feel sensations, what they feel like, and how strongly
- What you write and record: notes, tags, photos and voice notes, when they describe how you are
- Patterns: streaks, weekly insights, and the daily record of both partners’ moods
Most of this never leaves your phone. We only hold it on our servers when you share a check-in with your partner.
What we collect, from where, and why
| Data | Where it comes from | Why we use it |
|---|---|---|
| Mood, mood words, color and time of a check-in you share | You | So your partner sees how you are, in the app, in notifications and on widgets |
| Notes, tags, body map and other details you share | You | So your partner can read them. These are end-to-end encrypted, so we cannot read them. |
| Photos and voice notes you share | You | So your partner can see and hear them |
| A daily record of both partners’ moods on days you both shared | Made by our server from shares | Your weekly recap |
| Your answer to the sharing consent box | You | To keep a record of your consent |
We do not use consumer health data for advertising, we do not sell it, and we do not use it to train AI. Our analytics and crash reports are designed to leave it out (see Section 6 of the Privacy Policy). We do not use geofencing.
Who it is shared with
- Your partner, who sees what you choose to share.
- Service providers that store and deliver it for us, acting only on our instructions:
- Supabase stores what you share.
- Expo and Apple deliver notifications that can name your mood.
- Others only where the law requires it, or as part of a merger or sale of our business, under this policy.
We do not share it with anyone else, and we have no affiliates that receive it.
Your consent
Before we keep the check-ins you share, we ask for your consent with an unticked box: “I agree to BeSeen keeping the moods and moments I share, so my partner can see them.” If you do not tick it, your journal still works and your check-ins are not shared; our servers refuse them too. Something you send your partner yourself, such as a note, a reply or an answer to the daily question, is kept because you asked us to deliver it.
You can withdraw at any time with the “Store what I share” switch in partnership settings. That stops your check-ins being shared straight away.
Your rights
You have the right to:
- Confirm and access: ask whether we hold your consumer health data and get a copy. This includes the full list of everyone we have shared it with, with contact details.
- Delete: have it deleted. In the app, unshare check-ins, end the partnership, or delete your account. We also tell our service providers to delete it.
- Withdraw consent: at any time, as above.
To use these rights, email help@beseen.love. We may ask you to write from your account’s email address, so we know it is you. Under these state laws we answer within 45 days (our general promise in the Privacy Policy is 30). If we need more time, we tell you why, and we may take up to 45 more days. Two requests a year are free.
Appeals. If we refuse your request, you can appeal by replying to our answer with “Appeal” in the subject. We decide within 45 days (60 days in Connecticut) and explain why. If you disagree, you can complain to:
- the Washington State Attorney General at atg.wa.gov;
- the Nevada Attorney General at ag.nv.gov;
- the Connecticut Attorney General at portal.ct.gov/ag.
